This cottage passed thru three owners (Willard Beal, Mabel Henry and J Frank Conner) before coming to rest with the Seabury family in 1921. It was one of the first cottages to be allowed to be torn down and completely rebuilt in 1991. Previously, zoning rules required that at least one original wall remain standing while a new structure was being constructed.
Walter and Edward Higgins laid out the original lot in Plan Book 8, Page 9 and sold the lot to Willard Beal in 1903. We have no records yet on when the actual cottage was first built on the lot, but Beal retained ownership for 15 years until selling it to Mabel Henry in 1918 and construction is assumed to have happened during that time. Mabel Henry was a short time owner who sold out to J Frank Conner less than two years later. Conner sold the property to my grandmother, Pauline Winslow, of nearby South Portland in 1921. Gram passed title on to my mother, Barbara Winslow Seabury and her husband, Joseph Seabury in 1961. Joseph passed away in 1983 and Barbara followed suit in 1985. Following her death, the family sold the cottage to her oldest son, J. Bradford Seabury and his wife Ann. Brad and Ann have since passed, and for a while, a family trust held the property. Today, Ann and Brad's daughter Suellen owns the property.
The Seabury family has controlled this property since 1921.
